Keynote: Paganism and the Future
Some three decades ago, the contemporary Pagan movement came out of the broom closet and became a significant public alternative to the more conventional religions of our society. Today, to judge by the trajectories of many other alternative spiritual movements, it stands at a crossroads. Will it turn out to be the hobby horse of a single generation?  Or might it have a much more significant role to play as industrial civilization moves into its long-predicted crisis? John Michael Greer explores the possibilities.

Murphey's Midnight Rounder's
Murphey's Midnight Rounders play acoustic/power folk with elements of Rock, Celtic and Country. Their songs uncover novel rhythms and moving orchestrations while concentrating on elaborate harmonies. The effect evokes feelings that are truly otherworldly. The Rounders sense of fun and their beautiful rich music have made them a key part of our Pagan community. Recently they have brought their music to new ears at Festivals including Sacred Harvest Festival, Earth House Gathering, and as far afield as Pagan Spirit Gathering. Watching new fans discover them is almost as much fun as seeing them perform. If you are the former, or the latter, you will be delighted.

Minzoku Neo-Shinto
What is Minzoku Neo-Shinto? The technical answer is, "A universalist approach to an existential Japanese folk religion." But what does that mean? To break it down, universalist means it's open to anyone who's sincerely interested, it's not just for people of Japanese ancestory. Existential means it's based on personal experience, not on scripture or dogma. Folk religion means it's a religion as practiced by the commons – the everyday people – and on a local basis; it's not a religion as taught in the seminaries, universities, or on a national or international basis. Why is it Neo-Shinto? While it is primarily Japanese Shinto, like most folk religions everywhere, it incorporates elements from other cultures and makes their expressions uniquely it's own. Locally, this includes practices, ideas, and forms derived from the various groups that make up Paganistan.

The Artist's Way for magical people

Julia Cameron's system of creative recovery, the Artist's Way, can serve as a powerful tool for magic practitioners. The Artist's Way basics of daily journaling, introspective exercises and seeking out new activities and experiences to nourish the creative soul fits well with the magical concept of a co-creative universe. This workshop points to simple ways the program can integrate with developing magical disciplines, and also to how it can assist those wishing to develop a coven or magical group. This workshop is intended for magic practitioners who see themselves as cultural creatives; while any person who practices magic can find ways to apply the principles of the artist's way the most likely to try it already identify as artists. I have been involved with the Pagan community for 15 years. This includes publishing on Pagan-interest topics since 1999, as well as frequent acts of coordination, organizing, counseling and services such as de-hauntings, wedding coordination and home blessings on a concierge basis.

Rites of Passage
Anastasia Catherine Blechschmidt is an ordained circle sanctuary minister who has facilitated private circles and large public rituals, trained many in the Pagan path, and taught diverse classes on Paganism and related subjects both privately and at numerous community colleges in the northern Illinois geographic area. This class is on rites of passages and what they mean. As the Earth moves through her life cycle every year, humans move through their life cycle using each of the Earth's years to identify their passage from birth to death and back to birth. The Wheel of the Year moves from Yule to Samhain and back again to Yule we mark the turnings with celebrations that we call Sabbats. Our passage through life is also marked with acknowledgements and celebrations. We call them Rites of Passage. This class is open to everyone.

Lost Gods of the Witches

The Craft hasn’t always been a two-deity, God-Goddess system. No, back in the day we witches had a whole pantheon of our own to contend with, just like everyone else: the big, messy, roiling, dysfunctional Family of the Gods. And oddly enough, this most ancient way of seeing fits our postmodern worldview like the proverbial catskin glove. Who are these Divine Others? What have They to do with us? Postmodern polytheology at its most terrifying! “Do we know the number of the gods?” “It would be rash to say that we do. [One] should be content with a reasonable number.” Ezra Pound Keeper of the Minnesota Ooser, poet, scholar, and theologian Steven Posch is one of the Twin Cities’ foremost men-in-black.

The Magical Mesocosm
Most people in today's Pagan and magical communities are familiar with the principle of macrocosm and microcosm -- the traditional concept that sees the human individual and the universe as mirror images of one another.  Between the microcosm and the macrocosm, however, lies the realm of the mesocosm -- a symbolic model reflecting the individual and the universe alike, which is changed to cause changes in one, the other, or the relationship between them. Join author and archdruid John Michael Greer for a discussion/workshop on the fine art of creating and using mesocosms in magical and religious ritual.

Whether you're in a 12-step program, or just find yourself held back by behavioral addictions, Alchemy can be a door into spiritual growth. The 12-Step program is useful but can be exclusionary to Pagans. Using the 7-stage process of Alchemy (Calcination through Coagulation) we’ll explore ways to transform our addictions, substance or behavioral, by transforming our Selves. This session includes presentation, discussion, and an embodied trance journey through Alchemy’s 7 stages. Will you step into the crucible to burn away what no longer serves? Pagan Coming Out Day, May 2nd

Being out means you no longer actively hiding your religion or live a double life due to fear. However, it's not an either/or proposition as some Pagans are out in some people in their lives, but not others. International Pagan Coming Out Day (IPCOD) is a resource for Pagans who want to come out, a voice for Pagans who aren’t ready to come out yet, and a partner for the Pagan community and our non-Pagan allies in working to achieve greater acceptance and equity for Pagans at home, at work, and in every community. Learn more about why this Day is needed, how you can get involved, and what resources IPCOD has to offer.

Author of "The Runes: A Human Journey" (2007), Tauring's performances draw on 20 years of research and experience. Using elements such as a Danish flint knife from 20,000 BC, a replica of a Scandinavian Bronze Age string skirt (2,000 BC), and runic letterforms from 20 BC to the Middle Ages, Tauring sings and tells stories from our deep Scandinavian taproot. Drew Miller Drew is a longtime linchpin of the Twin Cities music scene. From the legendary celtadelic world music sounds of Boiled In Lead to the time traveling fusions of Felonious Bosch and so much more. Aside from playing with many different artists Drew has worked hard behind the scenes to bring unique and passionate music from around the world to Twin Cities audiences. We are truly richer for his presence. Bedlam Bedlam is a long time favorite of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and of audiences around the region. 22 Steps of the Cycle of Initiation - Transformative Journeys

This lecture and discussion group will examine Joseph Campbell's 22 stages Hero's Underworld Cycle and compare them to the 22 trumps of the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Amber Road: New Readings from Europe’s Most Archaic Pagan Literature

For the past two years, local poet and scholar Steven Posch has been engaged in the translation and interpretation of the little-known dainas (“songs”) of Latvia. Though collected in the 19th and early 20th centuries, these witty, exuberant, and poignant folk-poems enable the listener to enter into the truly archaic and wholly pagan mindscape of our most ancient ancestors. A one-time event: not to be missed! ‘[The dainas] have a beauty and primitive splendor above anything I know in Western literature….They seem to have been written at the morning of the world, and the dew is still on them.’ Robert Payne Keeper of the Minnesota Ooser, Steven Posch is one of the Twin Cities' foremost men-in-black.

Paganism & Mental Health

Being Pagan is awesome, but also tough sometimes! This program includes a presentation and discussion about special mental health issues we face: the isolation and anxiety in the broom closet, tricky relationships in covens, how to explain your beliefs to your therapist, the challenges of converting to a new (to you) religion, and more. Through interactive dialogue about shared problems and solutions, participants will learn something useful to help yourself or your friends/family/covenmates. History of Paganistan

About the time Mary Tyler Moore was tossing her hat in the air on Nicollet Mall, something very important but less well known was happening in the Twin Cities - Witchcraft came to town. The Twin Cities has been on the cutting edge of Witchcraft and Paganism ever since. We have many local groups, and chapters of most national organizations, we’ve hosted two COG Merrymeets, and have several local festivals. I can tell people what I know about our history, and hope to have other people share their stories.  I’ve been recounting our past at Pagan Pride and other events for several years; much of what I tell is from personal experience.
